General Knowledge - History - The first cities
- Harappa was 1st excavated by Rai Bahadur DayaRam Sahni in 1921; and Mohenjo - daro by Rakhal Das Banerji in 1922.
- In the Indian Subcontinent, the 1st cities came into being in the valley of River Indus.
- The harappans exchanged goods with Mesopotamia, Persia, Oman & Afghanistan.
- The harappan script was Pictographic. It is still undeciphered.
- Lothal, Dholavira and Gola Dhoro are the important Harappan sites in Gujarat.
- The harappan cities declined around 1500 BC.
