The Stone Age - History

The Stone Age can be divided into three periods of study, based on the type and quality of stone tools that early humans used.Periods are :
                                                 1. Palaeolithic or Old Stone Age
                                                 2. Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age
                                                  3. Nelolithic or New Stone Age

1. Palaeolithic Age : This period lasted from early tines till about 10000 BC, that is till about 12,000 years. It is further divided into Early(Lower), Middle and Late(Upper) Palaeolithic. Humans used crude stone tools during in this period.

2. Mesolithic Age : This period lasted from about 10000 BC till about 8000 BC. In this period stone tools are called "Microliths".
3. Neolithic Age : This period lasted from about 8000 BC till about 4000 BC. The New Stone Age tools were a further improvement on the earlier variety of tools. A large number of axes, sickles, spears and arrowheads have been found from Neolithic sites in India and other parts of the world.
